COLOMBO (News 1st): The All Island United Container Transport Owners' Association (AIUCTOA) has emphasized that freight container transportation charges will be increased by 15 percent with effect from the 01st of July this year. Container vehicle owners have been severely inconvenienced as a result of the increase in fuel prices, Sanath Manjula, the Co-chairman of the All Island United Container Transport Owners' Association (AIUCTOA) told News 1st on Wednesday (Jun. 16). "The freight container transportation industry was facing difficulties, even before the hike in fuel prices, given the rising prices of spare parts for container trucks," he pointed out. According to Sanath Manjula, the transportation of both import and export freight at the Colombo Port is conducted by the All Island United Container Transport Owners' Association, and in order to ensure the operations at the port, the freight container transportation service must be carried out 24*7 throughout the year.
