Rains and Gale Winds for South-Western parts of Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Cyclonic Storm “YASS” located over East-central Bay of Bengal is landed near north Odisha coasts, India by 26th May noon.

The impact of this system, on the weather over the island and the sea areas around the island, is expected to reduce gradually. However, due to the south-west monsoonal condition, the showery condition over the Southwestern part of the island and the gusty wind over the island will be expected during the next few days.

Showers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and in Galle 

and Matara districts.

Wind speed can be increased up to (40-50) kmph at times over the island and especially wind speed can increase up to 60 kmph at times in the Western slope of the Central hills, Northern, North-Central, and NorthWestern provinces, and in Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
