AG issues fresh guidelines to address prison overcrowding

COLOMBO (News 1st); Attorney General Dappula De Livera at the request of Secretary Ministry of Justice & Director General of Prisons has issued fresh guidelines to the IGP for bail in respect of several offenses.

State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, the Coordinating Officer to the Attorney General speaking to News 1st said the guidelines were issued in order to immediately reduce the Prison Remand Population & Overcrowding in the face of the rising Covid Pandemic.
