COLOMBO (News 1st); Additional buses from the Sri Lanka Transport Board will be deployed for service on Monday (17) due to a possible strike by railways trade unions, said Dilum Amunugama Sri Lanka's State Minister of Vehicle Regulation, Bus Transport Services and Train Compartments and Motor Car Industry and the State Minister of Community Police Services.

The Sri Lanka Railways Station Masters Union posted on Facebook that scheduled trains on Monday (17) would not operate due to a strike actions by Locomotive Engineers and Railways Guards.

Last week, Sri Lanka Railways said it will operate additional trains from Thursday (13) for passengers employed in essential services in the private and public sectors and travel from distant locations.

Passengers must confirm their identity by producing their official ID in addition to the NIC accompanied with a letter from the head of the institutions.

These trains were scheduled by Sri Lanka Railways after the Sri Lankan Government imposed travel restrictions effective until the 31st of May to prevent the spread of COVID-19 which has already claimed more than 950 lives.
