Colombo (News 1st); Venerable Jaburewela Chandarathana Thero filed a complaint with the National Police Commission requesting for an inquiry on the conduct of Sri Lanka Police when they arrested him during a protest in Colombo on Thursday (08).
The Venerable Thero said all necessary parties were informed of the protest on the issues of the families of fallen and disabled war heroes, and therefore it cannot be termed as unlawful assembly. "Media reports claimed the person who hurled the stone was arrested by Sri Lanka Police following an intervention of the President and Prime Minister, however, there is no information as to what happened to that person," said the Venerable Thero. 'How was he released and why?,' questioned the Thero adding if the person was questioned it would be easy to uncover who instructed him to throw the stone. Venerable Akmeemana Dayarathana Thero, the President of the Sinhala Ravaya Organization said, "What we witnessed yesterday was a failed commotion involving the police. It was the police who instigated those acts yesterday. We feel that if it was done with the knowledge of the government." "If it was not done with the knowledge of the government, then it could have been instigated by a police officer who opposes the government," highlighted the Venerable Thero.
