Colombo (News 1st); Justice Minister Ali Sabry has stressed the importance of ensuring there are facilities for infant care in the administration of the justice system.
The Minister was responding to a Facebook post by Former Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra, where she stressed the need for such facilities. "I would like to thank Ms. Hirunika Premachandra for bringing to my attention the difficulty faced by breastfeeding mothers as no provisions have been made in the Court system for such an important part of life," said the Justice Minister. "I cannot put a value on the importance of motherhood, and accordingly no mother should have to face difficulties in accessing courthouses due to the need to feed their child," he said. The Justice Minister went on to note that he is determined to ensure that there is no discrimination or bar to access justice and the government must work towards ensuring the provision of the facilities for infant care in the administration of the justice system. "I am committed to this task, and I assure you that this will be given priority in the justice system reforms currently in progress," said the Justice Minister.
