Colombo (News 1st); Retired Sri Lanka Army personnel will be assigned to form a special unit to provide security for prisons across Sri Lanka.
Prisons Commissioner General Thushara Upuldeniya speaking to News 1st said the Cabinet of Ministers had approved the plan and personnel will be recruited without any delay.
He said there is a need for such a unit considering the security required for high profile prisoners and the entire prison structure.
Thushara Upuldeniya speaking to News 1st said Sri Lanka Army Personnel who completed 12 years of service and left the military will be recruited for this unit.
These recruits will be recruited as Prison Officers and thereafter they will be formed as a special unit attached to Prison Intelligence, in order to strengthen the potential of intelligence units.
