Colombo (News 1st);  60 Police Officers have been exposed to COVID-19, said Deputy Police Chief Ajith Rohana on Friday (30).

More than 300 Police Officers have been placed in quarantine, he said.

At present police officers are involved in the enforcement of quarantine curfew and operating check-points.

A majority of the police officers were exposed to COVID-19 from the Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster mainly because most of them travel to the fish market to purchase fish for multiple police stations, said DIG Ajith Rohana.

He said the Acting Inspector General of Police had taken all the necessary measures to control the situation adding personnel have been segregated and restricted to their barracks.

Further, personnel from other police stations have been called in to carry out the functions of the officers who have been placed in quarantine, he said.
