US Secretary of State holds talks with Foreign Minister

Colombo (News 1st); US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (28) for talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

Prior to meeting with the Foreign Minister, the US Secretary of State called on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for talks.

Secretary Pompeo met with President to discuss economic partnership based on transparent trade and investment, key components of the post-pandemic economic recovery - as well as a shared commitment to democratic freedoms, tweeted the US Embassy in Colombo

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, thereafter for talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

Mike Pompeo arrived in Sri Lanka on Tuesday (27) evening.

The Foreign Ministry said the Secretary of State of the United States of America, Michael R. Pompeo is undertaking an official visit to Sri Lanka, on an invitation extended by his Sri Lankan counterpart, Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

During his visit, Pompeo will hold official discussions with the Lankan leadership as well as with his counterpart, it added.

The discussions during the visit will cover several areas of the multifaceted engagement between the two countries.

Secretary of State Pompeo is the highest-level US dignitary to visit Sri Lanka during the tenure of US President Donald Trump.

On Wednesday following official talks he will travel to St. Anthony's Church in Kochchikade, Colombo.

Thereafter, he will fly to Maldives and Indonesia concluding his visit to Sri Lanka.
