Colombo (News 1st); COVID-19 cases have been reported from across 21 districts said the Ministry of Health on Wednesday (14).
The spokesperson for the Health Ministry Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara said if the general public continues to comply with the guidelines issued by health authorities, the spread of the coronavirus can be controlled and prevented.
In an exclusive with News 1st, Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara said almost 160 COVID-19 cases were reported from the Colombo District while around 40 cases were reported from the Gampaha District.
There are some districts where only a single COVID-19 patient was reported, said Dr. Bandara.
However, he said when tracing contacts of the COVID-19 cases reported in recent weeks, it was ascertained they were connected to the Minuwangoda apparel factory, which is known as the 33rd COVID-19 cluster in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara dismissed claims of moving into lockdown and said there is no need to impose a lockdown as health authorities have understood the spread of COVID-19 in the country adding public support is paramount to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The Gazette on the Quarantine Regulations and the Health Guidelines will be released by midnight on Wednesday, Dr. Jayaruwan said.
