Colombo (News 1st); 51 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Monday as of 1900 hours, said Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army who is also the Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).
He said 15 cases are employees of the Minuwangoda Brandix apparel factory and are in quarantine while the other 35 are close contacts.
Earlier on Monday (12) 39 COVID-19 cases were detected as part of the Minuwangoda cluster, army commander Shavendra Silva said.
Among the cases, 25 were close contacts of employees at the Brandix factory in the area, at which a worker first tested positive for the novel coronavirus, Silva added.
Accordingly, 90 COVID-19 cases were reported as of 1900 hours on Monday (12), reported the Department of Government Information.
It added the total number of cases from the Minuwangoda cluster rose to 1397 cases.
