COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Wildlife Conservation on Friday (Aug 28) said facts were presented in court regarding the illegal clearance of a part of the Anawilundawa Wetland Sanctuary in Puttalam.
"The wetland had been cleared using machines and other equipment in the absence of wildlife officers on the night of 25th August; nearly a hectare was destroyed," Chandana Sooriyabandara, the Director-General of Wildlife said on Friday (Aug 28).
According to the Director-General of Wildlife, the suspects responsible for this act are yet to be identified.
Sooriyabandara was hopeful further information on the identity of the suspects could be uncovered during the court investigations.
