COLOMBO (News 1st); The token strike conducted nationwide by the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) in protest of the alleged sexual assault of a trainee specialist doctor at her official residence in the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital concluded at 8 AM.
Due to this strike, patients who visited the hospital for consultations and treatments faced significant inconvenience.
GMOA spokesperson Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe stated that the strike was called off after their demands for security measures were adequately addressed.
A special discussion regarding this incident was held at the North Central Provincial Ministry, attended by North Central Province Governor Wasantha Jinadasa, members of the GMOA Anuradhapura branch, and senior officials from the Anuradhapura Police Headquarters.
"We have collectively agreed on a plan to ensure security within the hospital premises and have set a timeline for implementing these measures. The representatives from the GMOA expressed satisfaction with the positive steps taken by both the government and the provincial council, thus eliminating the need for further strike action," said Wasantha Jinadasa, the Governor of the North Central Province.
