Police to expand crackdown on election law violations

COLOMBO(News 1st): A decision was reached to further expand operations to crackdown on election law violations. Senior DIG (Elections) Priyantha Wijesuriya speaking to News 1st said the number of police officers allocated for election duty would be increased. Sri Lanka Police said 06 candidates contesting the August General Election were arrested for violating election laws. Senior DIG Wijesuriya said two of them were arrested on Friday (24). 257 people were arrested for violating the election laws as of this morning and 20 of them were arrested on Friday (24).
