COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Posts has declared Sunday (July 17) as a special day with regard to the distribution of polling cards of the 2020 Parliamentary Election, the Department of Posts said.
"Two Sundays were declared as special days for the distribution of polling cards for the convenience of those who are employed and unable to collect the polling cards during weekdays. Therefore I request the people who are yet to receive their polling cards to stay at home on either today or 26th July and collect the polling cards after signing," the Deputy Post Master General requested.
The Department of Posts has declared both today the 19th of July and Sunday (26th July) as special days for the distribution of polling cards.
"All post offices across the island will be open today, to carry out the distribution of polling cards of the upcoming General Election," Rajitha Ranasinghe, the Deputy Post Master General told News 1st on Sunday.
According to Ranasinghe, 25% of distribution activities have already concluded.
He further went onto note that 29th of July was declared by the Department of Posts and the National Elections Commission, as the final date for the distribution of polling cards.
After the 29th of July, the distribution of polling cards from house to house will conclude.
As such, the Deputy Post Master General noted, "Those who fail to collect their polling cards by the 29th of July, can collect it from the respective post office, upon confirmation of identity."
