Total COVID-19 cases rise to 2,646

COLOMBO(News 1st): The total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka has increased to 2,646 after 29 patients tested positive yesterday. 2 returnees from the Maldives tested positive yesterday, while 2 residents of the Rajanganaya area also tested positive. The others who tested positive are 11 inmates from the Senapura Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre and 14 people who came into contact with the Kandakadu Rehabilitation centre patients. There are 652 active COVID-19 patients currently receiving treatment in hospitals, according to the Ministry of Health. 1981 patients in total have recovered. Security has been beefed up in the Rajanganaya area where many cases have been reported and services at government offices have been limited, according to our correspondent. That group of people from 09 families and a private business establishment in the Thamankaduwa area have also been directed to self-quarantine, our correspondent stated. The Unagalaveheira Raja Maha Viharaya in Polonnaruwa has also been converted into a quarantine centre after a recent visitor had tested positive, our correspondent further added. Meanwhile, the families of the two soldiers attached to the Kandakadu Army Camp who recently tested positive have been sent to quarantine centres. The families are from the Dehiattakandiya and Serupitiya areas. Residents of these areas were subjected to PCR tests yesterday.
