Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have temporarily ruled the death of Rajeewa Jayaweera (64) whose body was found at Independence Square this morning, as suicide.
Police Spokesperson SP Jaliya Senaratne speaking to reporters today said a letter addressed to the victim's brother indicated Rajeewa Jayaweera's decision to commit suicide, including how he possessed a firearm. He said after coming into possession of the letter, the victim's brother had made attempts to locate him and thereafter filed a complaint with the Bambalapitiya Police over his missing brother. The Police Spokesperson said though preliminary investigations reveal the death to be suicide, a conclusion can only be reached after the Magistrate's Inquiry is complete.
