Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka Navy said the Gaffor Building in Fort, Colombo was temporarily acquired for renovation purposes and as only used to cater to essential services for the Sri Lanka Navy following the COVID-19 outbreak.

Navy Spokesperson Lt. Commander Isuru Sooriyabandara in a video statement said the Gaffor Building was mainly used to accommodate ambulance drivers attached to the Welisara Navy Hospital and those attached to catering at the Welisara Naval Complex.

He said the naval personnel were confined to the Gaffor Building premises taking into consideration the environment at their designated duty point and were kept away from outside contact.

Lt. Commander Sooriyabandara said after one person from the Gaffor Building tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday all personnel detected via contact tracing were moved into immediate quarantine.

He stressed there is no need for the general public to panic simply because the Gaffor Building is located in the city adding those who were placed at the premises were never in contact with outsiders and other naval installations.
