COLOMBO (News1st): The Panwila and China Fort areas in Beruwala and Akurana in Kandy which were placed under isolation, were re-opened today.
Chief of Defence Staff, Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva who is also the Chief of the National Operations Centre for Preventing COVID-19 said, these areas will not be treated similar to others areas of the country.
A group of 207 Sri Lankan students and professionals are to reach Sri Lanka this evening in a special repatriation flight operated by SriLankan Airlines.
The Army Commander said the group will be directed to quarantine at a Sri Lanka Army operated quarantine facility immediately upon arrival.
Today 11 people were released from quarantine facilities operated by the Sri Lanka Army as they completed their quarantine period and tested negative for the PCR test.
Accordingly, 4917 people completed their quarantine period and were released by the armed forces operated facilities.
Lt. General Shavendra Silva said 1023 people identified as 01st and 02nd contacts of the gallant armed forces personnel who were infected are placed under quarantine.
4635 people are currently undergoing quarantine across 36 quarantine facilities in the country.
