COLOMBO (News1st): The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka refuted reports speculating a team of Indian army officers are to arrive in Sri Lanka to support efforts in combatting COVID-19.
"There is no medical team or Army coming to Sri Lanka," sources at the high commission told News1st. "That is false."
On Tuesday, Indian media citing sources reported moves which are underway to deploy teams to assist SAARC countries.
The sources had said that "teams for Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Afghanistan are being readied as part of India’s policy of extending helping hand to all friendly countries in the region to fight the pandemic".
According to media reports, India had already dispatched teams to Kuwait and Maldives to assist in fighting the pandemic.
