The Medical Research Institute says, around 1,600 samples of patients who are suspected to have contracted Covid 19 have been tested thus far.
Director-General of the Medical Research Institute Specialist Dr Jayaruwan Bandara added out of the total samples, only a few had tested positive for Covid-19, stating that around 60 more samples are yet to be tested.
The MRI is the main institution in the country, spearheading the testing of samples who of those who are suspected to have contracted Covid-19.
Around 100 tests are conducted daily by 12 Laboratory Technologists.
The Director of the MRI added the reports obtained through the tests are then inspected by 3 consultant Virologists and the relevant hospitals are promptly notified.
