COLOMBO (News 1st):- Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, via a telephone call, has informed his Secretary Gamini Senarath to take the relevant measures to ensure that essential goods are supplied to the market without any shortage.
Accordingly, measures were taken to distribute essential food items from storage facilities belonging to state-owned retailer Sathosa. Meanwhile, Litro Gas Lanka Ltd. has taken the necessary steps to supply gas without any shortage.
Chairman of Litro Gas Lanka Ltd. Anil Koswatte said that arrangements have been taken to distribute gas cylinders across the country.
According to the Chairman of Lanka Sathosa, Nushad M. Perera, Lanka Sathosa has stored dry rations that are sufficient for a period of three months. The Chairman also inspected several storage facilities owned by Lanka Sathosa.
The chairman further said;
"Although curfew is still in effect, we will take action to transport all goods to our sub storage facilities today. After that, these goods will be transported to the network of our sellers tomorrow and the day after. Therefore there is no need to panic. There will be no shortage of goods."
He adds;
"Ample necessary items will be available. If there 11 Sathosa storage facilities, goods will be transported to each and every facility from Welisara."
Goods were supplied to many areas from the Sathosa Distribution Centre in Welisara today as well.
