COLOMBO (News 1st) - Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala has confirmed that six police teams have been assigned to arrest former IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon.
The Minister said that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
A warrant for Tennakoon’s arrest was issued by the Matara Magistrate's Court on February 28, in connection with a shooting incident that took place in front of a hotel in Pelena, Matara on December 31, 2023.
Following the incident, a foreign travel ban was also imposed on him.
Deputy Minister of Public Security, Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala, emphasized that steps will be taken to seize the assets of individuals who evade arrest, regardless of their rank.
He reiterated that the law must be applied impartially to all.
