COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon has filed a writ petition through his legal team, seeking an interim order to suspend the arrest warrant issued against him by the Matara Magistrate's Court.
The court had ordered his arrest in connection with the 2023 shooting incident at a Hotel in Weligama.
The petition was presented today (10) before the Court of Appeal, presided over by Acting President Mohamed Laffar Tahir and Justice Sarath Disanayake.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for March 12th, after issuing notices to the respondents.
The Matara Magistrate's Court had previously ordered Tennakoon's arrest as part of an ongoing investigation into the shooting incident, which resulted in the death of a police officer.
