Gampaha Shooting: Shop Owner Linked to Underworld Figure

COLOMBO (News 1st); Police have revealed that the recent shooting incident in Kirindiwita, Gampaha, which left a motorcycle shop owner injured, is suspected to be connected to the assassination of Ganemulla Sanjeewa, a notorious underworld figure.

Sri Lanka Police suspect that the motorcycle shop owner was targeted as a result of this connection.

It has also been revealed that the individual named 'Thammita Sumith', identified as the person who orchestrated the shooting from overseas, is a close associate of the slain Ganemulle Sanjeewa.

On the night of 8th of March, a shooting inside a motorcycle shop left 36-year-old Chamara Nadi Sandaruwan injured, and Sri Lanka Police said that he is a close associate of underworld figure Kehelbaddara Padme.

Police have uncovered that Thammita Sumith had made several threatening phone calls to Sadaruwan prior to the incident.

In addition to Sadaruwan, 30-year-old Asitha Devinda, an assistant at the motorcycle shop, was also injured in the attack.

Both victims are currently receiving medical treatment.

Four police investigation teams have been deployed to further probe the incident and apprehend those responsible.
