Colombo (News 1st): Sri Lanka Air force Media Spokesperson Group Captain Gihan Seneviratne, confirmed to News 1st that an aircraft belonging to them had crashed in Haputale, claiming 4 lives including the pilots.
The Air Force has appointed a special investigation board to carry out investigations into the crash of the Y 12 surveillance aircraft. The aircraft crashed in the Thambapillai area in Icepeella, Haputale.
Sri Lanka Air force Media spokesman said the aircraft, was a Y-12 fixed-wing aircraft engaged in a reconnaissance mission. He added that both the Air Force pilots and the two observers were killed in the crash.
Due to the accident, a woman residing in a nearby house was also injured. She was admitted to the Haputale base hospital. The reasons for the crash are yet to be ascertained.
