Rainy weather to worsen in several areas

Colombo (News 1st): The Meteorological Department noted that rainy conditions over the island, particularly in the Eastern, Uva, Central, and North-central provinces and in the Hambantota district is expected to enhance further. It added that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Eastern, Uva, Central, and North-Central provinces and in the Hambanthota district. Several spells of showers will occur in Northern and North-Western provinces. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle, Matara districts after 2.00 p.m. Heavy falls about (100-150) mm are likely at some places in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Nuwara-Eliya, Matale and Polonnaruwa districts. Fairly heavy falls about 75 mm are likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces and in the Kandy, Hambanthota and Galle districts. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, Central and Uva provinces and in the Hambanthota district. Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organization note that the landslide warnings issued to Matale, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts are still in effect. Landslide warnings are still being implemented in the Naula, Wilgamuwa and Laggala Pallegama Divisional Secretariats in the Matale District. Further, landslide warnings have been issued to the Ududumbara Divisional Secretariat of the Kandy District and the Walapane Divisional Secretariat of the Nuwara Eliya District.
