COLOMBO (News 1st) - One person died and 60 others were injured in an accident that occurred along the Colombo-Batticaloa main road. Two buses collided onto each other in the Muwanpalessa, Minneriya area.
Another accident that occurred in Puttlam claimed the lives of 3 and injured 8 others. A van had toppled this morning at the 4th milepost area along the Puttlam Anuradhapura main road. Three people including a child died while 8 others were hospitalized.
The deceased was the driver of the van, a 32-year-old woman and a 4-year-old child. According to police the driver had lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree.
The injured are receiving treatment at the Puttlam Hospital. Two of the injured are in critical condition were transferred to the National Hospital. The accident occurred while a group was on their way back from a pilgrimage.
According to our correspondent, the group travelling in the vehicle were residents of Naththandiya, Kalutara, and Bangadeniya.
