Colombo (News 1st): The Joint Committee of the All Island Executive Officers have decided to launch a continuous strike from today (September 25). Chairman Dr Nimal Karunasiri said the strike is in protest against the failure of the Cabinet to take action to remove the salary anomalies that have arisen in the public sector by increasing the salaries of the legal sector.
Further, the strike initiated by the Government Administrative Service Officers Association over salary anomalies enters its second day today. However, the President of the Association Prabath Chandra Keerthi said the strike is not being implemented in the districts affected by the inclement weather.
Meanwhile, the strike launched by university non-academic staff is to continue for its 17th straight day today. Media Secretary of the Universities Trade Union Alliance Saman Kariyawasam said university education has come to a halt due to the non-intervention of the authorities to resolve their issues.
