Colombo (News 1st): The Department of Irrigation notes that the water levels of the Millakanda area of Kalu Ganga remain at minor flood level. The department's Director of Water Management Mala Alawathuwala warned that people living in the low lying areas of Kalu Ganga in the Divisional Secretariats of Palindanuwara, Bulathsinhala, Kiriella, Ingiriya, Maduraawala, Millaniya, and Kalutara should remain vigilant.
Meanwhile, the landslide warnings issued for the Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya and Kegalle districts have been extended up to 4 pm today (August 15). Issuing a warning for strong winds, the Meteorological Department warns that sea areas extending from Pottuvil to Trincomalee via Hambantota, Colombo, Puttalam, and Kankasanturai will be very rough at times as the wind speed will increase up to 60-70 kmph.
Several spells of showers are also predicted across the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Western provinces. Light showers may also occur in the North-western province.
