COLOMBO (News 1st) -Presidential Commission probing into corruption in the present government was revealed that a building in Rajagiriya was obtained for the Ministry of Agriculture without approval from the Committee of Public Enterprises or the Auditor General.
Niluka Jayasinghe, the Accountant for the Ministry of Agriculture testified noting the building was obtained after securing cabinet approval.
She testified before the commission highlighting the fact the cabinet paper for the building was presented by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
It was further revealed a sum of Rs 466mn was spent to purchase furniture and other equipment for the building.
Further examination of evidence will take place on the 23rd of July at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry.
The monthly rental for the building in question is a staggering Rs 21million.
