COLOMBO (News 1st) - Seven people died while more than a dozen were injured in accidents reported from Talawa, Tissamaharama, Alawwa, Jaffna and Millaniya during the past 24 hours.
Police stated a head-on collision between a van and lorry on the Anuradhapura - Kurunegala main road resulted in the death of three women including a pregnant woman.
The victims were travelling in the van and six others who were injured were admitted to the Anuradhapura hospital.
Meanwhile, a person died and 13 people were injured following a head-on collision between a van and a tipper truck on the Kataragama - Tissa Road.
In addition, A three-wheeler driver died after crashing on to a bus that travelled in the opposite lane when attempting to overtake a lorry in Giriulla. The SLTB bus driver was arrested over the incident.
Another three-wheeler driver died after he lost control at high speed in Millaniya while a motorcyclist in Mulankavil was run over by a lorry.
