COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Registrar General's Department states that almost 40 - 50% of the land deeds in Sri Lanka are forged documents. Registrar General N. C. Withanage says that it has been proven that over 1/5th of the birth certificates, marriage certificates and death certificates in the country are also forged.
Withanage further said that as a solution for this issue that measures will be taken to computerize the data in land deeds and birth certificates. He added that the basic data of all Sri Lankan citizens will also be computerized as a new mechanism adopted by the department.
