COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management states that tenders have been called from two foreign companies to reconstruct the eroded Kalido coastal line in Kalutara.
Director General of the department Prabath Chandrakeerthi noted that tenders were called from two companies in the Netherlands and China.
Due to the sea erosion in the Kalido coastal line, the residents in Kalutara are currently facing a drinking water issue. This situation has occurred due to the marine water flowing to the area through the Kalu ganga.
The National Water Supply and Drainage Board noted that since marine water has infiltrated to areas close to the Kethhena water purification plant. This has resulted in an issue with the distribution of water. Thereby measures have been taken to distribute water using bowsers to over 5000 families in Kalutara.
