Colombo (News1st): The Police has launched investigations into an incident where a dog was burnt alive while in a cage in Koppara Junction, Negombo.
The police state that the incident occurred on 31st night when it was burnt using Kerosene oil. The Labrador had succumbed to its injuries yesterday (January 01).
The Negombo police has obtained fingerprints from the scene of the crime.
There are serious punishments against perpetrators of such heinous and inhumane crimes under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Ordinance. The Ordinance states that any person who kills any animal in an unnecessarily cruel manner shall be punished with a fine or with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 6 months or with both.
It should be noted that such inhumane activities are carried out by people who are mentally ill and if not brought before the law, these activities could be just the beginning of more inhumane acts of violence.
