Colombo (News 1st): A public gathering organized by the National People’s Power in preparation for the upcoming Local Government elections took place today in the Pudukkudiyirippu area. The event was led by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Speaking to the crowd, President Dissanayake highlighted the importance of winning the upcoming elections to continue the country’s positive momentum.
"We should win because, after a long time, our country has finally begun to move in the right direction. We must not allow this progress to be reversed."
He reflected on the past, pointing out that the long-standing conflict between the North and South has caused immense suffering, including the loss of innocent lives, and left families devastated.
He emphasized that the wars had brought nothing but pain, and it was time to unite the country. He called on all communities to recognize Sri Lanka as a shared homeland, regardless of race or background.
The President also announced plans to organize a National Cultural Day in October, inviting all communities to come together and celebrate unity.
