Speaker calls for immediate restructuring of public service

Colombo (News1st): Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has called for the immediate restructuring of the public service. He claims there is a very limited interaction between the central government and the provincial councils a similar situation can be experienced between provincial councils and local government bodies. The Speaker has proposed to the President and Prime Minister, the appointment of a Presidential Commission with complete power to bring all three units of governance together as functioning separately would be a waste of public funds. He stressed a politicized public service had led to a situation where a public servant is available for every 15 Sri Lankans and it is the tax-payers who have to bear the cost for this as well.
