Death Toll Rises to Ten in Tragic Blaze in Anguruwatota Elderly Home

COLOMBO (News 1st) - On-site investigations into the fire at the Batagoda Elderly Home in Aguruwatota are being conducted today (04).

Police said that the Government Analyst and the Horana Magistrate are expected to engage in the inquiry.

51 people were rescued from the fire.

Police Spokesperson, Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler, stated that 09 bodies were recovered at the scene.

One of the eight patients who were receiving treatment at the Horana Hospital after being injured in the fire died early this morning.

Police further stated that 71 people were living at the elder's home, and they have now been temporarily housed at Batagoda Vidyalaya.

Authorities have planned to relocate them to another safe location today.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
