Heavy Rain Up to 100mm Expected in Several Provinces

COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Department of Meteorology says heavy showers of around 100mm are likely at some places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western provinces, and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Strong winds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph are also expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern and North Central provinces, and in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.

Other areas may experience fairly strong winds of 30 to 40 kmph at times.

The Department of Meteorology has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize risks from temporary strong winds, lightning, and thundershowers.
