Tariff Hike Decision Due Next Month

COLOMBO(News 1st); The Public Utilities Commission says public consultations on the proposed electricity tariff increase submitted by the National System Operator (Pvt) Ltd will conclude this month.

However, this time, views will be gathered only from the Colombo district.

Accordingly, the Commission’s recommendations on the proposed tariff increase are expected to be announced early next month.

The National System Operator (Pvt) Ltd recently requested a further 15% increase in electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026.

This comes in addition to the 10% tariff revision already implemented for the same quarter.

The request for a further increase was made to cover an additional Rs. 16 billion cost incurred in electricity generation.
