Electricity Tariffs Rise Across All Usage Categories Starting Today

COLOMBO (News 1st): Electricity tariffs will increase with effect from today.

Accordingly, the tariff for the monthly electricity consumption category of 0 to 30 units will increase by 4.3 percent. 

According to the Public Utilities Commission, the monthly tariff increase for this unit range is 15 rupees.

The Public Utilities Commission stated that for the category between 31 and 60 units, the tariff will increase by 6.9 percent, which amounts to an increase of 45 rupees.

A 6.9 percent tariff increase is also effective for the category between 61 and 90 units. The monthly bill increase for this range is 120 rupees.

For the category from 91 to 180 units, there will be a 7.2 percent tariff increase, and their monthly bill will increase by 420 rupees.

The Public Utilities Commission has granted approval for a 25 percent tariff hike for consumers using more than 180 units.

The Commission approved these tariff increases after considering a request made by the Electricity Board for a 13.56 percent tariff hike for the second quarter of 2026.
