COLOMBO (News 1st): The Sri Lanka Navy has recovered 298 parcels of heroin from a multi-day fishing trawler that was intercepted and escorted to the Dikowita Fisheries Harbour. Navy Spokesperson Commander Buddhika Sampath stated that the seized narcotics have a street value of approximately 6.2 billion rupees.

The illicit haul was found concealed inside 19 sacks on board the vessel. While the parcels have been accounted for, the Navy Spokesperson noted that the exact weight of the heroin is currently being calculated in an ongoing investigation led by the Police Narcotics Bureau.

The breakthrough follows a special operation conducted yesterday in the deep seas off the southwestern coast of the island. During the raid, naval personnel took the fishing trawler into custody along with six suspects who were onboard at the time of the seizure.
