COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka powered to a dominant 105‑run victory over Oman in their Group B clash of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

Sri Lanka posted a massive 225 for 5 in 20 overs before restricting Oman to 120 for 9, sealing one of their most convincing wins in the tournament.

Batting first, Sri Lanka were lifted by three explosive half‑centuries. Kusal Mendis struck 61 off 45 balls, Pavan Rathnayake hammered 60 off 28, and captain Dasun Shanaka smashed a rapid 50 off just 20 deliveries, the fastest by a Sri Lankan in T20Is. The partnerships included a 94‑run stand between Mendis and Rathnayake, which became Sri Lanka’s highest third‑wicket partnership in Men’s T20 World Cup history.

Sri Lanka’s innings was propelled by heavy scoring in the middle overs, and despite losing two set batters in the 18th over, they crossed the 200‑run mark comfortably, ending at 225 for 5 — their second‑highest total in T20 World Cup history. Oman’s bowlers struggled, with Sufyan Mehmood conceding 60 runs in four overs, the most ever by an Omani bowler in a T20 World Cup match.

Chasing 226, Oman faltered early. They lost three wickets inside the first six overs and never recovered. Dushmantha Chameera struck in the opening over, and Sri Lanka continued applying pressure as wickets fell regularly. Oman’s only resistance came from Mohammad Nadeem, who top‑scored with a fighting 53 off 55 balls, and Wasim Ali who added 27. But their efforts were not enough as Sri Lanka maintained control throughout the innings.

Sri Lanka’s bowlers were disciplined, with Maheesh Theekshana taking 2 for 11, Chameera picking up 2 for 19, and Dunith Wellalage and Kamindu Mendis contributing with a wicket each. Oman eventually finished on 120 for 9, well short of the target.
