COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have issued a warning to the public over fraudulent emails being circulated using the name of the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
In a statement issued by the Police Media Division, authorities clarified that these emails have not been sent by the CID, despite being crafted to appear official.
According to police, the misleading emails have been sent from the addresses [email protected] and [email protected], and are believed to be part of an attempt to deceive members of the public.
Police said they suspect the emails are being used for fraudulent purposes, including attempts to extort money, obtain personal information, or mislead individuals through impersonation.
The CID has already launched an investigation to identify the individuals or groups behind the scam, with legal action expected against those responsible.
