CMC Member Loses Seat Following Exit from SLMC

COLOMBO (News 1st); A member of the Colombo Municipal Council has been declared to have vacated her seat, according to an Extraordinary Gazette issued on February 9, 2026. 

The Gazette notification, published under Section 10A(1)(a) of the Local Authorities Elections Ordinance, states that Mohamed Buhari Fathima Sohara has ceased to hold office as a member of the Colombo Municipal Council, as she is no longer a member of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC). 

The announcement was made by Piumi Attygalle, the Returning Officer of the Colombo Municipal Council. 

The declaration was printed in the Extraordinary Gazette No. 2475/05 and is now publicly accessible via the Government Printing Department’s official portal.
