COLOMBO (News 1st); The authority to close schools in Sri Lanka’s Central Province has been delegated to school principals due to the prevailing heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions.
Provincial Education Director Nihal Alahakoon stated that principals may decide to suspend classes with the consent of the Zonal Education Director, ensuring safety for students and staff.
This measure comes as continuous rains pose risks of flooding and landslides in several areas, prompting flexible decisions at the local level to minimize disruption and danger.
