PM Amarasuriya to Attend Global Leaders' Meeting on Women in Beijing

COLOMBO (News 1st): Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, who is currently on an official visit to China, is scheduled to attend the Global Leaders' Meeting on Women today.

The summit, themed "One Shared Future: New and Accelerated Process for Women's All-round Development", is jointly organized by the Government of China and UN Women’s Beijing office.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya is also scheduled to deliver an address at the summit.

During her visit, the Prime Minister is expected to hold several bilateral discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier of the China State Council Li Qiang.

The Prime Minister, who departed the island on Saturday night, arrived in Beijing on Sunday morning, where she was received by, Minister of China's National Radio and Television Administration.

Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya is scheduled to remain in China until October 15.

Yesterday, she visited the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China, two of the country’s most significant cultural and historical landmarks.

Recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Forbidden City stands as a masterpiece of imperial architecture and a symbol of China’s rich history, while the Great Wall remains an enduring emblem of the nation’s cultural and artistic heritage.
