Large Cache of Ammunition Found Near Moragahakanda Reservoir

COLOMBO (News 1st): Police have discovered a large cache of live ammunition, including two aircraft-destroyer rounds, during an operation conducted near the Moragahakanda Reservoir.

The discovery was made during a special search operation carried out based on a tip-off received by the police.

According to police sources, the stock includes 895 T-56 rifle bullets, 116 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 10 rounds of 41mm ammunition, 2 rounds of 78mm ammunition, 4 rounds of 84.5mm ammunition, and 134 GMPG rounds, in addition to two aircraft-destroyer shells.

Police said investigations are underway to determine who had hidden the ammunition in the area.

Authorities further stated that a special operation is being conducted today near the observation point of the Moragahakanda Reservoir to uncover any additional hidden explosives or weapons.
