Thunderstorms with Strong Winds Predicted in Parts of Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning for heavy rain accompanied by lightning in several parts of the country today.

According to the notice, the North Central, Central, and Uva provinces, along with the of Matara, Hambantota, Ampara, Mullaitivu, and Vavuniya districts, may experience heavy rainfall in the afternoon.

Thunderstorms in these areas could also bring strong winds.

The Meteorology Department has advised the public to take precautions against dangers caused by lightning and strong winds.

Additionally, showers or thundershowers are expected across many parts of the island after 1.00 pm. Some areas in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces may receive moderate rainfall exceeding 50 mm.

During the morning hours, light showers are also possible in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, and Puttalam districts.
