Draft Amendments on Corporal Punishment of Children Not Yet Law – Says Minister of Justice

COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister of Justice and National Cohesion, Attorney Harshana Nanayakkara, said that the draft amendments to the Penal Code regarding corporal punishment of children have not been enacted into law.

The Minister added that any amendments can be added at the Committee Stage. 

The Minister added that for the amendments to be implemented, corresponding changes should also be made to the Code of Criminal Procedure, which is why the bill was not formally passed.
